This light was exactly what I wanted. It is small enough and angled enough that it is hard for birds to build nests on. It has a nice finish that is easy to clean, it is easy to install if you are familiar with any electrical work. Remember to make everything is nice and tightened, and you snug everything up properly. If you are not familiar with electric work, make sure you call a professional. I definitely recommend these, especially if you want a cheap light to update the look of your house.
I replaced an old rusted outdoor light with this; I think this will last many years.
Installation: You'll probably be using this to replace an existing light, otherwise you'd need to run some wires. It was reasonably easy to install, with a couple minor glitches. My first picture shows the electrical box and its plastic cover plate after I removed the old light. I had to do a couple things to make this light fit well.
The light comes with a metal plate (as is common) that has a lot of slots to accommodate different electrical boxes. The metal plate has two mounting screws that point out to attach the light fixture itself to, plus a ground wire screw. The heads of the two mounting screws stuck up *just* enough that the plate would have wobbled when tightened down against the existing plate. The grounding screw also stuck out enough to cause an issue. The mounting screws *almost* fit into the existing slots in the plastic cover plate, but I enlarged the slots with a drill enough to eliminate that source of wobble, as you can see at 3 o'clock and nine o'clock on my first picture. I also drilled a hole for the grounding screw to poke into, eliminating the other source of potential wobble (that hole is near six o'clock in that same picture). (And I cleaned up the plastic mounting plate, in case the rust marks that had accumulated there would show when I attached this new light.)
The other minor glitch was that the mounting screws stick out a bit further than they should have, so the cap screws wouldn't screw all the way down, leaving the lighting fixture loosely attached--again, wobbly and with the potential for rain to get inside. You can see this in my second picture, where some of the screw peeks out from under the cap nut. I could have shimmed the mounting screws from behind to make them shorter, but I was reluctant to take it all apart again, so I used 3 or 4 #6 washers between the cap nut and the body of the fixture (my third picture).
The final result is shown in my fourth picture; it looks nice, I think, and should last years.
A couple notes: The seller's description says you can use this as a security light. That's true, but be aware that it does not have a sensor for light or for movement, so it will be on whenever your switch inside your house is turned on. Modern LED bulbs don't use a lot of electricity, so that's a minor thing. Also, one of the seller's pictures refers to "toughened frosted glass." It's not frosted (it is glass, not plexiglass).
On the good side, the opening at the base is bigger than the opening on the light fixture this replaced, making it much easier to get my hand in there to change the bulb.
Needed a new light outside the back door. This one is uncomplicated & easy to install. Although not the sturdiest of lights, it is perfectly adequate for the intended purpose. The design makes it easy to clean the glass, inside and out, and change the bulb when necessary
I like the simplicity of this black metal outdoor light fixture. It’s a standard 2 wire installation with a ground wire and takes a standard bulb (E27). I like that the bottom is open for ease of bulb changes. The ad states it is weatherproof and rust proof. This light works perfectly for my small porch area as it is only 13” high. I think it is a good lamp for the price.
